This wonderful Italian comedy is a charming film looks at four stages of love – falling, crisis, betrayal, and abandonment – seen through the experiences of four different couples.

First is the obsessive nature of falling in love as affable Tommaso is smitten by Giulia. Next, Barbara and Marco have lost the spark in their relationship, which she hopes to re-ignite with a baby. Then there’s betrayal, when Ornella discovers her husband is having an affair and proceeds to wage war against all men. Her means? … well, she’s a traffic cop.

The final chapter is the most touching. Goffredo is a middle-aged paediatrician whose wife has unexpectedly dumped him. Confused, hurt, and lonely, Goffredo turns to the self-help book The Manual of Love. Working to rebuild his life, Goffredo’s tale is the most emotionally resonant and provides the film with a truly touching ending.
