The society's last screening of the year is Ballets Russes, a superb dance documentary which recounts the history of the ballet company founded by Diaghiliv as it struggled for existence during the 30 years after the master’s death.

Through old film footage of performances mixed with interviews at a 2000 reunion, the film evokes a real sense of the passion that is behind the art of dance.

Ballets Russes gives us a wonderful glimpse into the drive behind ballet and the motives of those involved. “A well crafted documentary revealing many layers to the world of ballet that most never know of”.

Alicia Markova and Henri Matisse as Matisse designs his costumes for the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo production of Rouge et Noir. Choreography by Leonide Massine. Circa 1939.
